I have been searching for information about changing the timing on my truck when pulling my car hauler. I was told that I should set the base timing to 4 btdc, vers the 0 it is set too. My first problem, is I can't find the black and brown wire to unplug. I did a search here and found it was located in two different places. I looked but no black and brown wire. Second problem, is the information I got about advancing the timing going to give me better performance when pulling my car hauler? Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

the last 2-3 years of the tbi thay kind of hid the wire . i have heard to check in the glovbox area. this is the area for the computer.

i know of one guy that didnt ever find his.

Yeah the later IFS trucks have the Timing bypass wire inside the cab under or behind the glove box. Dont rember what color it is. But it is a single wire with a connector in it you unplug.
Advancing the timing may help. The only thing you can do is try it. If it works and you have more power thats good. If you seem to loose power set it back.
I usually run TBI engines 2 to 4 degrees advance but also up the fuel pressure to around 13-14.

Thanks, I guess I need to get a service manual. I have no idea how to adjust the fuel pressure, but I will learn. Thanks for your help.

I found the wire and it was in the cab under the glove box. I also bought a Chilton's manual but it has nothing about increasing the fuel pressure. What type manual or tech article would I need to show how this is done?

You don't.

If you want to increase the fuel pressure, you need to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
