i am trying to find a spec range for the 350's that had the timing tab that you have to see at the top of the timing cover, viewing from behind the water pump.. no idea of the year, its not mine and in a FJ40..

if you have this style what year is yours? that should help..

Sounds like a 80's smogger motor. Id look at 4-8 BTDC. Or just advance it till you get pinging under load them back off a couple degree's.

Doesn't matter where the timing tab is, but if it is just a carbed engine set it somewhere between 4*-8* and go from there. BTW, most of the engines i've seen with the timing tab behind the water pump were 305 engines.
