Tips for staying motivated?

What's your tip to keep the build moving along?

I'm not sure I would describe my build as "moving along", but the plan has been to keep it drivable as much as possible. A bunch of stuff has been piling up that needed welding, so I finally scraped the cash together and bought a Millermatic 180. Now I just need to dust off my welding experience (if I can ever get the welder away from my sons) and I'm ready to get moving again! I figure now that it has warmed up enough to work on the truck I have about three weeks before it is too hot. :rolleyes:

Another tip would be to stay realistic about the amount of time it takes. With a full time job, a wife and kids, and no real good place to work on it, I am 3 years into my build now. :doah:Some people can throw a truck together over a long weekend - I am not one of those people. :o
 
I didn't do anything on the rig tonight. Dead tired.
 
I couldn't get motivated today either. Went out and put antifreeze into the crew, started it for a few minutes and fixed the radiator mounts. Started to finish up painting the trim pieces and took the door panel of the drivers door.

I had to MAKE myself do all these things. You could tell it was gonna rain all day so it was tiring. Idk what it is about rain and me but we don't get along
 
I got slaughtered today, and tomorrow will be MUCH worse... fridays always are in the spring boating biz...

but I managed to put in an hr when I got home, and just put another hr in at 9 pm... that "do a little each day, it adds up" train of thought does work...
 
I got my registration and tag today

Drove it on the road home for the first time :D:D:D

Not bad at all really, just pulls slightly to the right. No bad vibrations either.

I was going 55 the whole way home. I wouldn't want to go any faster.

It feels kind of like it's floating with the soft suspension, odd feeling. I slow way down for turns.
 
Mine was just trying to do a little every day or so,to see progress.
But it has been hard because work has been lighter then before,so no extra money.
I still try to find little things that need to be done to help keep it going.
 
just got back home from working 7 12.5s in a big basement in cold ass states since mid feb, i am cram packed full of motivation. also have a few boxes of goodies from members here and a quick phone call to DIY4X i am in wrenchin mode.

lol yeah, i put enough dollar biills into it so i had it dipped in gold spray paint.

Quit breakin' gauge needles, and get that front suspension finished up! :haha:



What keeps me motivated when I actually get off my butt to work on the truck is taking pictures to do write-ups for whatever it is that I'm working on. Knowing that someone else may use the pics and info I provide is a good feeling, that keeps me going. Also, knowing that pics of what I'm doing, step-by-step, will be on the net, stops me from half-assin' stuff that I normally would.
 
One: You guys,Reading about things your doing - learning new things from here.

Two: saving up to fix things that are wrong..Like now Im saving up for body mounts and gathering the tools I need.

Three: waiting for my handicap sticker to get here...
 
I no longer dive head first into a build and try to do everything at once. A whole lot of smaller projects with lots of wheeling in-between makes the whole thing a lot more fun. That way each time you do something to the rig, you see an immediate return on your investment and enjoy the benefits right away.

Frame offs are only done to swap tubs now, and even then, I'll just get the thing to the point where it will run and drive, then add all the interior stuff etc later on as time goes by. Helps avoid getting burnt out!


So true, I would be so much further if I had bought a truck that was already useable, instead of a engine/fuel injection, trans, axle, and suspension swap all at the same time. Im just glad mine runs:doah:

I think driving or wheeling it can be the best motivation in ways, then again wheeling can also put off other projects too.
