I'm heading over to a junk yard today to extract one vent window glass. Any tips on how this can be done without breaking? What tools should I bring along?

Just the glass itself? On all of the 73-87 truck I've owened/parted out, the glass is/was easy to pull out. I can't even open the vent windows on my K5 because the glass will fall out.

I was under the impression that the vent window could not be replaced by itself. I pulled the entire vent window and frame from a donor door, with the intent of swapping it into my door. Came out with basic tools, pretty sure I just had a socket set along on that trip.

If the vent window wants to fall out, I thought that meant that the hinge bottom was gone/rotted away, and the hinge was part of the frame, meaning that an entire new frame assembly was required. Someone that's done this successfully clarify???

The vent windows are glued into the assembly , should be old and rotted enough ( the glue ) to yank out . Mine were always closed too LOL

You can take the glass out, but you have to drill out some rivets and reinstall them after the glass is replaced. It's easier to just replace the frame.

Update, I went to the junk yard and got new glass. I was lucky that one of them just popped out of the frame (glue must have been bad as mentioned above). Now my new challenge is getting the locking mechanism to work again.
