road trippin' my tube doored "rag-topped" baby out to galveston, tx. wed. thru to when ever i get tired and wanna come home. try a little beach wheelin' (never done it) a bit of fishing (day and night) and maybe sleeping (wink wink) under the stars w/ my chick. anyone got some tips/advice for me? thnx dudes.

i know this might not be the right section for this....but thought what the hay.

I have been to crystal beach a few times and once I got a stern warning by the local law about driving on the terrain between the beach and land. About 100-200 feet of dunes and brush.

It's some awesome stuff, but the ranger said it was off limits and protected land.

Stay out of the dunes and use public access points, make sure you have a beach access permit and air down for the soft sand.

San Luis Pass, out on the west end of Galveston Island is where I always go. there are a bunch of trails out there and plenty of open space to play around. the fishing is pretty good too. I had to drag a dodge out of a sand hole with my Ford when I was out there in March. good thing about the San Luis Pass area is it's all free. if you hit the east end you have to pay to get in.

these were from my last trip down there:

don't stop too long in one place in the city after dark...unless you like things not bolted down to come up missing.

i like to go over to boliver and play around i fish rollover pass alot too in gilcrest just make sure you hava a beach parking permit i think they are still 10 bucks

looks like a black drum :)

have you considered going down to surfside?
you have a lot more freedom when it comes to driving on the beach.
up on the galveston side, the few places with public access have "parking lots" and then you have to walk to the beach.

we would camp down in surfside and never get bothered by any official types.

i cant remember exactly how to get there now, its been years since we'd take my buddys jeep and another's F150,
but you can take a cut off of HWY 288 and then get to a different beach further south of Surfside, then drive south on the beach and get to a river mouth.

then you can take that river mouth back "inland" for a mile or so and find some great spots to wheel *without getting into the dunes*.

im lookin at google maps and still cant remember, but i think it was around Quintana Beach.
