Looks like I gotta do a heater core. Any tips/tricks/short cuts? 77 K5 with A/C.

clean as much of the black under coat off as possible on the LONG studs in the engine bay side . then run a thread chaser on them . lots of lube . real easy and slow with the wrench at first to make sure the nut spins and NOT the whole stud and snapping off the mount for it inside .

inner fender if its decent try and remove it . makes it a lot better on a/c equipped trucks .

pics look non a/c box but same ideas . https://ck5.com/forums/resources/heater-core-replacement-75-91-k5.20/

i would also look for a n.o.s aftermarket copper / brass on ebay . but thats just me .

Yup, like @sweetk30 said.

I also like to try and blow some of the coolant out of the core before removing the housing, so that I minimize the mess on the floor. It seems like you have to roll the housing down towards the floor to get it out from under the dash.

Also, you probably have to plan on repairing the little plastic retainer for the blend door actuator. This is only on A/C trucks, which I believe that you have.

I left that hard to reach nut off in case I need to replace mine again. I was able to get mine off though with a combination of extensions and swivel sockets. Took some time but easier than pulling fender.
