Has anyone bought a tire carrier from Tiregate? It's the unit that fits into a trailer hitch. If so does it hold up to off roading? I'm considering options.

i would like to get one of those that actually bolts into the stock tailgate location, but saw it was only good for up to 40" tire. i have never seen one like your asking about.

It should work good. I would not suggest trying to tow anything while using it though because it would put a greater strain on the original hitch because of the leverage.

Carrier

I alway liked the look of having the tire mounted outside. Sorta Rat patrolizh (for those old enough to remember). There are some available but they are more expensive and you have to replace the rear bumper too. There seems like there are not enough vendors making a rear tire carrier out there.

For that price I'd buy a bumper with tire carrier on it. They're out there and about that price. Check Blazen Off Road and DIY4X.

You could always check out a local 4x4 fab shop, could have one made to your specific liking. Prob run about the same money.

I've checked, DIY4X does not make carriers. For a Blazen Off Road model the carrier is separate from the bumper so you have to buy them both separate which would be more $$$.

I'm still looking for a local fab shop.
