tire choice

Many of you saw my thread about my fender flares on the first gen. It was a no brainer. I sold the flares, wheels and tires. So now i'm looking for new wheels and tires. Something in a radial and somthing fairly narrow. I want the truck to drive as well as possible on the street.
I have narrowed it to 2 choices. Both have a 17" wheel cause i dont like big wheels.

#1 40x13.5x17 Goodyear MTR's

#2 41x14.5x17 Irok Radials


I run MTR's in a 35" on my dailey driver and i love them, however they cost about $40 per tire more than the swampers.


Any opinions and comments would be appriciated

JMHO, but stay away from the Goodyear MTR's. They are worthless. For the life of me, I do not understand why the Army uses them on the Humvees, ambulances and light vehicles. They can't get out of their own way. Wet traction is about all you can say for them, and their sidewall. Get in sand or MUD and your toast.

If you want a MUD tire, stay with the company that cannot be beat: INTERCO! You want the Iroks! Also consider the 15x39x17 TSL's. I have them and they measure out to a true 42" tire.

Again, JMHO.

Best wishes....oh, btw...lookin' at a Mighty Demon 650. I'm getting annoyed with Holley.

i loved my iroks, i had bias ones, never put any weight on them and drove them up to 70mph and they ran smooth
 
um... i know this is off when it comes to the tire choices you have but i love my nitto mud grapplers. they are more expensive though

Ya the nitto's, toyo's and especially the procomps are too expensive for my budget.



Manny, congrats on the choice of removing the holley, i know thats how i fix all my carb issues.

Manny - I believe the tires Makovai is thinking of are very similar to the Toyo mud terrain...

I run MTR's and love them. They are certainly not the best in mud, but neither is a 9000lb Suburban. On the street, trails and rocks they are great.

Good catch, I was wondering what he was talking about!
 
the MTR will wear better then the Irok. also the Irok's are directionals. so unless you want people telling you the tires are on backwards it limits your options when it comes to rotating them.

I got 45,000 miles out of the 33's on my DD and I didn't rotate them very often. I also wheeled on them and they are great. I replaced them with another set.

wow! the iroks are winning, i wish more peeps would tell me why. will the MTr's ride better? I was leaning twords the MTR's but the iroks are cheaper so i'm still listening to opinions.
 
I ran set of MTRs on my '96 Chevy Tahoe from May 2002 to February 2005. It was my daily driver for work. I drove about 30 miles a day every weekday during that time. If they're rotated properly they run great and aren't that loud. I would have bought them for my '73 but I couldn't justify the cost over the BFGs. I'd run them again in a heartbeat if money was no object.
 
MT/R's BABY! :D

I rode my 35" MT/R's for over 30,000 miles.

I'm now on my first set of 40" MT/R's

You want the best ride on the street: MT/R's

You want a lot more mileage for a little more money: MT/R's

You want to have a cool "rock spider" that is only on the sidewall of the 40" variety: MT/R's
 
MTR's !!!! I've ran 3 sets probaly my favorite radial .......there just expensive but for only a $120 more it'd be worth it because you won't have to replace them as soon as the Irok's

Interco makes awesome OFFROAD tires but there not the best choice for something that runs 65% or more Highway Driving
 
Depends on how much street the truck sees, if its trail only id go for the intercos, but the mtr's will definately out wear the intercos.
 
below is my dailey driver. as you can see i'm not stranger to the MT/R's, but i think i'm leaning twords the swampers.
I just haven't made the move yet cause i can't find any wheels reasonably priced.

I like the fact i can get the swamper in a 41x14.5x16, so i dont have to run those big pimped out wheels on a classic truck.
