Tire Grooving?

I've been searching for a while now and I'm still not clear on what the blade size #'s represent (ex. #2,#4,#5). From what I've seen everybody ends up with about a 1/4" cut. What size blade does this require. What brand groover do you have? How deep and what shape (V or U) does it cut.

if you are cutting swampers above 38" then yes 1/4 blade. i think its #4 size. there will be a chart for blade to width size conversion. i got mine from the tire supply guys that come to work . and for blade shape its what you like. i find round cuts a little easyer. i cut some 42s and the wear bars were perfect cut out at the 1/4 width.
