tire question

for bias ply tires, how often do yall think one has to drive the truck to keep the "flat spots" from forming?

Ive got the 8 bolt H1 beadlocks, and wanted to run the 37in radials, but the 36in bias ply's are easier to find and cheaper for the time being.

Figure if i drive the truck to work once a week id keep the tires round and not have those annoying flat spots?

Does it matter? Bias tires last have as long as radials, and it sounds like this rig will see trails more often than roads (im assuming), so why does it matter if they get flat spots or not? You wont notice them on the trail.

cuz i have to drive two hours to the nearest playground. this is my only truck, so i have no tow rig or trailer. so actually it will probably see more road than trail. although once the axle/suspension upgrades are done, i fully intend to wheel alot more than i do right now. I just dont have any wheelin buddys (or didnt think i did till recently) in the area, so i usually go by myself, and with 33s in 10 bolts and a TH400 in questionable health, and front springs bent the wrong way, i never wheel that hard, and dont go that often. Id say once everything is said and done, now that ive got the jetta to drive daily, it will see about 40% trail duty, and 60% paved road. most of that hauling stuff, or driving to and from the trails.

did not know about the half life of the bias ply vs radial though......

With your intentions, I would definetly go with radials...no question.

well that was an easy answer. thank you good sir. maybe i should just make better friends with someone on the local base and try and get my hands on some local 37in radials from the Hummer fleet.

If you don't like shaking and bouncing, then go with a radial. As for flat spotting, some take longer than others. Some (mine) will start to flat spot after sitting a couple hours on pavement.
