Tire size?...How much is too much?

Re: Tire size?...Opinions needed

There is no such thing as too much gear with overdrive.

what do you mean? i have o/d, and i have too much gear. i have a 4L60 and 4.56's and 33's in my 91, and that is too much gear - for the tires.

Re: Tire size?...Opinions needed

That sounds like a perfect combo to me.

*edited* I'm mounting a 42" TSL tomorrow to see how it fits/hits...

Um... if you think 42's will run on 4" of lift... you best have NO flex in your susp... AND trim the hell outta your fenders. I've got 7" of lift MASSIVE trimming... and I can still contact the firewall and the inside part of the rear wheel well.

Lets hear how it goes for you.

But I WILL say this... I LOVE my 42's.

Sure. As soon as I set up another outing, I want to invite both you and dan if that's cool with you.

Just be advised though, I was the smallest fullsize in the woods the other day with the 38.5x16s !

Damn!! Good job dude!

I got a whole 1 ton truck for $1400. The engine is in mine now and the axles will be soon enough. The cab will probably be too now that I rolled mine over. I think I'm going to save the frame to build a nice DD truck too.

It's almost time for new tires again now that my 36x12.5 swampers are worn. What size or type of tire would you run on a mud/trail rig with 3/4 tons, 4.88's and a detroit? I'm looking for something at least 37" tall and wider is always better. I also should mention that I only have a 4" lift and will be doing plenty of fender removal to fit anything else. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

If the tires don't rub, they're too small.

If they rub, they're too big.

My general philosophy is that whatever they're rubbing on will eventually wear off, and then you know you have the absolute most tire you can get under your rig. Problem solved.
