After the last two weekends it’s time to replace the tires and wheels on mom and dads Suburban. The tires are from 2001 and I’ve managed to mess up three out of the four aluminum wheels and blow two tires. The plan is to put black steel wheels and new tires on. Debating on if I should change wheel sizes and what tire to run, don’t want to go any bigger on tires. It has 33x12.50x15’s on it now with 15x10- 6lug with a 3.5 backspacing. Thought’s? Stick with 15’s? What tire? All the black steel wheels I’ve found are 4” backspacing, will .5” make much of a difference? This has only gotten about 7,000 miles put on it in the last 20yrs. so the tires will age out before the tread wears out so not worried about a high mileage tire. Looking for something good on the trail and street. The plan is to drive it back and forth to trails/ camping and around town just to keep the batteries charged and the fuel fresh.

I just swapped some 15x10 Crager soft 8's on to my M1009 with 4" backspacing and they fit just fine. I used stick on wheel weights and they self clearanced on the caliper brackets though.

more tires available ? I guess the Jeep crowd still uses 15" so there should be a good selection.

I have considered them, My dad's Utah neighbor put a set on his work truck, water service worker in Dameron valley only a few paved roads. He had great things to say about them. Have heard praise for them from others. Several race teams at King of the Hammers run them, over Nitto.

I feel like the 17s might offer better selection and tire pricing. Maybe base it on the price of the tires you want, whichever wheel size is cheapest.

Milestar Patagonia in 33/12.50R15 is $246

33/12.50R17 is $312

so a $66 difference; my opinion is with all the newer Jeeps and trucks running 17s, they cost more so the company can make more money. you can almost pay for the wheels. 15" wheels are $73 and 17" wheels are $97

as far as the Patagonia's go; I have a buddy running 37s on his JK. he was out rock crawling at Los Cruces and the whole tread separated from the tire; he made it back to camp on cords and they sent him 4 brand new tires. I have a set I bought but haven't run them on anything yet.

Here's the 15x10's I mentioned above. To me, 15s look proper on a half ton square body, unless you are running 37s and above.

I choose Mickey Thompson baja legend EXP's this time around, 33x12.50x15's were $258 each from summit racing, and MT was running a $100 rebate offer. IMG_20240413_141202372~2.jpg

That's very interesting. You could right about the reason for the price difference.

This is the same conclusion I came to after doing some quick research. I think any brand tire can have its issues. Thanks

I like the look of these.

Comparing prices at the moment and the Mickey Thompson’s are $5 dollars each more than the Patogonia’s.
I guess I’ll have to make a choice, dad told me to get wheels and tires this week.

Wish I could see a real pic of the Patagonia’s in the same size mounted, hard to picture what they look like in a 32-12.50-15 mounted. The above pic of the Mickey’s makes me want them.
