Tired of my Holley. Frustrated and need advice

I'll jump on the q-jet suggestion too...

But my guess would be a float or seat issue on the holley if it does it on the road but not on the dyno

i have the 1406 edelbrock and put in spring needle and seats.it runs good all the time no matter what angle ive had it at.everyone sais they hate them, but this is my second one and i love the way it runs.first was on my 67 impala but got sold with the car to buy my 72.

hey OP did you ever get anywhere with this?
my truck is doing the same thing... i actually have stopped enjoying the truck and let it sit for a LONG time...

now... im in a different boat..

i changed jet from 68 to 71... also portion valve is 2.5 and changed it to a 10 i think... reasons..
guy i know who races a grand national (700+hp) said you cant take a holley out of a box and throw it on.. he recommended the jet 3 sizes up...
race shop i got the jet from said no way you need a 2.5 in there.. he explained that when vacuum drops under that number then it squirts fuel in... so i put a 10 in...on his recommendation..

now i have the hesitation off the start like usual... still need to find the right pump cam to use.... but now under full throttle.. she will go (after the hesitation) and scream up until i believe my secondaries should be kicking in.. then flat on its face.. horrid... undriveable... i too need to get this working..

so today on my way home im going to put .68 back in and 2.5 back in to get back to stock and see if it acts up.... more to come (including video )

just wanted to check on what you did... i really like this carb and after paying $415 for it... and about $50 in parts.. i dont want to ditch it and buy a different carb....

im told holleys are a bear but they produce the best power..... once dialed in :dunno:

i kinda just learned to live with it, mine has sat a lot lately for long periods of time.

i pulled the motor and resealed it a couple months ago and after timing it, i ran her down the road and she did not fall on her face :woot: the first time, but did the second time :doah:

so once i get the motivation im going to see if i have a fuel issue or if my timing is playing with me.
