now i know there are a lot of variables here but im gonna try to keep this simple.

I need an all terrain tire for my DD, what tire out there is the king of fuel economy for all terrains? i drive 40 miles round trip a day and travel through snow and mud often so a regualar street tire will not work.

Im not expecting good fuel economy out of a all terrain im just simply asking which one is the best for what you get?

im kinda leaning toward the BF goodrich all terrains. but open to others

You cannot beat the BFG on those requirements.
I had a friend that was getting 80-90k out of his sets but he was using them on an xterra, little lighter vehicle.
He got 2 sets before the engine gave up

Agreed, i work at goodyear tires and even i would recommend the BFG A/T.

ran the BFG KO's on my 1995 jeep wrangler 4.0 5speed, LOVED THEM!! got low to mid 20's on the highway cruising at 60-70mph. quiet, and looked good with the raised white lettering.

I've got the BFG AT KO's on The Tracker. Came with them. They're decent tires but not sure I'd buy them if and when they get replaced. My cousin has some of the BFG Grabber AT's that look similar and raves about them. Also have friends that swear by some of the other AT's out there. Unless you really need that 3 ply sidewall I'd say there are alternatives out there that cost less and will work just as well for you.

goin on the dmax i assume? what size tire you looking at and are you keeping the rims or going to stock?

What size tire are you looking for? What vehicle are we talking about ?

Saying you'll see a noticeable difference in fuel economy between 2 different but same size tires is probaly not going to happen. Now there can be a huge difference in performance i.e. ride quailtiy, traction, tread wear etc. between brands. If you want more fuel economy, you first need to look at things like weight, rolling resistance (no big mud tires) ,optimum size for your vehicle, gear ratio and driving habits.

i bet he would see an increase if he loses the 37s. and goes to a 315ish tire and maybe stock rims. not sure how good its gonna look with that lift though

Well a stiffer sidewall will get you better mileage.
Harder compound will get you better mileage.
A narrower tire will get you better mileage.
More life out of a tire is also savings even though not fuel savings, if your tire lasts twice as much as others it's half price.:dunno:

BFG All Terrains are great tires, had them on my Power Stroke for years before I sold it. My Dad has only had them on his 94 K3500 Crew Cab.

I have had the Mickey Thompson ATZ on another truck and they are also a great all terrain. A little tougher to find locally it seems, but they are cheaper than the BFG's.

I think I got great mileage with both tire.

I found BFGs ok off road but to soft for the street. The best tires I ever had were Pirelli Scorpion A/T. Still looked new after 40k miles and priced less than BFGs.Would have bought them again but no longer available in sizes larger than 31x10.5(damm). Salesman suggested Yokohama Geolanders A/T, very satisfied with there performance.

running 3.73 gears at 65 i run about 1600rpm

if i go with the 37s i dont think the 12.5 would work, would competly take away from the look of the truck. it would be to tall of tire with a skinny look.

See now you are changing the requirements.
You said best economy, now you also want it to look better.
I personnaly don't see the difference between 12.5 and 13.5, but hey you asked we provided.:waytogo:

im wanting the best fuel economy tire no matter what. trying to compare tires to tire, not sizes or widths.

i know its gonna suffer more with the 13.5's but its more about if sitting side by side what is the better tire in that certain size? BFG? Pro comp ect ect? after figuring that out then i will decide the height and width.

no different than if someone was looking for a stock height tire, they know what size they want they just want to know the best tire.

see my point?

Nothing eats tires worse than my F-250 superduty.

factory original BF Goodrich rugged trail E rated gave 105,000 miles
Since then, I can't get 20,000 miles a set for the last 3 sets of tires, all E rated and all terain. I've been cheap and getting no-name stuff at a local tire dealer, ~$350 set.
I know that my alignment is correct.

I am going back to the BF Goodrich rugged trail ~$800 set.

Just messing with ya buddy:thumb:
I still think BFG has the best compound that gets you decent all around tire and long miles and because of it's stiff sidewall gets good mileage too, less rolling resistance.
Of course if you want to pay double that, get a michelin and you'll get a little better in everything.

if that came off snappy that wasent my intention i just felt like i did not explain what i was going for correctly :doah: no hard feelings intended :D

I have not even looked at michelin, or even heard of an AT tire for them, might have to look into that.
