wheels are the easy ones, im going with mickey thompson classic locks, but what size? i was thinking 16 inch but what yall think?

then on to tires, what would yall recomend for a 86 k5 that will see 60% highway and 40% offroad but will see colorado winters and mountain climbs, hardly no mud.

i was thinking bf goodrich krawlers or the mud terrain km2 that 70jimmy recommended.

any other ideas.

the tire will be a 35/12.5/???

and i was thinking about ordering online since it seems cheaper than what some of the shops have quoted me at so where is a good website to get tires and rims?

thanks

I would go with a 17 inch rim simply because you will have more options in the future when (not if) you decide to go with bigger tires. I don't even think you can get a BF Goodrich MT 35 on a 16" rim.

It depends on prefernce. A 17 inch would be more expensive but everything is getting to be 17s and up it seems. Try looking at summit. They have good prices. The krawler is going to be expensive. Depends on your price range

yeah if i remember right i could only get it in the 15 or 17, but any other tire option would be a 16.

35 will be the biggest i run, because it will be on 1/2 tons and my goal here is to get a wheel and tire combo that i will like, and when i upgrade to 3/4 tons all i have to do is buy wheels not tires. then i will go bigger :D

BFG mud terrains, I love em and do mostly street driving and then hunting. I always got at least 60k out of them. On my 4 th. set now.

i have a curve ball to toss in for you to save you some dough

order 8 lug rims.. get the rims you want.

then, either run wheel adapters, cost around 200-250.00 or convert the front axle to 8 lug and only run the spacer in the rear. The nice part is you can easily recoup some money on the adapters, instead of taking a bath in your loss on the the rims.

then just swap a semi or full floater rear when your ready,

are you geared now or plan on just using the 4.10s in the 3/4 tons?

as for tires, im loving the idea of these new tires from interco

i was thinking the same thing on the 8 lug rims, because i was planning a swap in the future i just dont know when.

my problem is i have 15 inch rims now on almost new 33's and if i buy 35's in a 15 inch rim than they wont clear the calipers without grinding.

so i was gonna buy rims in a 16 or 17 that way i could at least re use the tires later.

but i like the wheel adapters that your talking about, where would i look into those at?

and im geared with 4.10's right now.

I was gonna go with the BFG M/Ts also. I already have 17's and 35's and 1 MTZ so that'll be the way i go. Be spending around $300 a tire but i want them :doah:

I say w/e size wheel you go definately go with the BFG's. Lots and LOTS of good ratings. Plus you won't have to buy a set for a good while

another nice option that allows you to buy 6 lug rims and keep them is to simply pick up a semi floater rear axle that is 8 lug

it will already have the same gear ratio, they are in numerous 80's 3/4 burbs, then grab the 6 lug shafts from a 88 and up truck and swap them in.

this upgrades your rear to a nice size carrier and ring and pinion and keeps you from messing with the front axle at all plus no re-gearing!

yay win win!

or if you can find it, a newer disk semi floater, it will also have the e-brake built into it

another thing, read up on the caliper grinding, is no big deal and tons of material is left, even if it could start to move around with the rim so close it cant fall out
