I bought a 91 blazer off a guy and when he signed the titled he put his name and address were mine was supposed to go. I went to title it in my name and they said that the guy I bought it from and I need to go to a notary, sign a piece of paper, and get it notarized. I call him up to see when he can do it and since I bought the blazer he has moved and has no intentions to come back here.

How can I take care of this? Can I do a title bond, if so how?

Can you mail the paperwork to him and have him get it notarized where he is? Then he can send it back to you and you can have it notarized in Gulfport.

I asked them that at the court where you title vehicles and they said that we need to both sign it infront of the notarer so they are the witness and then have it noarized.

Even easier would be to subit for a lost title but with an owner change as well. The seller would have to do this though. Basically the seller would file the paperwork and put your name as the new owner and then (i believe) the new paperwork would be sent directly to the buyer.

The owner can sign a title and have it notarized. This will leave the title open. In Arizona, this is a common way of transferring the title.

Well now he won't answer my calls...

friggin dead beats

if he doesnt take your calls -now you have to get inventive-try asking someone who works in junk yards or towing or car repair maybe they have an answer-maybe a lien on the title that would make you the beneficiary if not paid-something along those lines...or if you know a notary close to you--relitive or friend or friend of a friend that trusts your story----forge both the names and be done with it--if he calls you back after that tell him you stripped it for parts and hang up on him!!!! I hate to even suggest this stuff but some people just act like idiots and it pisses me off!!!!! what, he got his money now he cant be botherd PLEEEEEEZE!!

i hope you have a bill of sale that shows you bought it...

if you don't have anything that proves you bought it, he could take it

better cover your a$$

it's obvious he's up to something if he won't help you out since it was "his" mistake...

I have a bill of sale, but I might have messed up there cause that wasn't notarized either...

I told him before I bought it I only wanted it for the body and the rest was either going to get sold or sent to the scrap yard...

I was thinking lien sale as well. Will take a couple of weeks but at least the title will be free and clear. Since this guy has no intention of helping you with the issue.

When I bought a motorcycle from a guy who lost the title, I just had to show the dmv a bill of sale and provide a note stating the title was lost. They had to do an inspection of the VIN at the DMV, but they did issue me a title. Maybe try that.

Bummer dude.

I had an old Mercedes with a similar problem. Bought the car, parked it, tore it apart, never had it registered. A year later I'm ready to drive this thing, but accrued fees were over $1000, plus the title and 130-u form were missing signatures and information.

Considered a bonded title, but in TX, a title sits in bond for 3 years unless someone comes in to dispute. Only after 3 years has passed will they issue a new, non bonded title. It's suspect if you ever want to sell the car, and chances are you won't be keeping it for 3 years down the line.

Finally, the old Mercedes got hit where it was parked, and the guy's insurance was going to cut me a fat check. They wouldn't release it until the car was in my name, so I went into the DMV with all the necessary paperwork, including the title/130-u form that I finished myself. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, but in my defense, the original owner I bought from had since died.

I think I might already know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway. Since I'm just swapping the 91 body on my 85 frame could I just leave it titles as an 85? The frame will still be the 85 vin... But really nothing else is either 85 or 91.

Also, I found out today that he is still in the Navy, so if he continues to not answer my calls I'll get ahold of his command and see what they can do for me.

I know it would involve pulling the windshield but couldn't you remove & reinstall the dash vin from the 85 to the 91?

The simple answer is NO.

If it were the other way around where you were swapping frames and not tubs then it really wouldn't be an issue. Because a cop is going to look at your VIN on the dash not the frame to match the title you can see where the problem will come if you swap the 91 body onto the 85 frame and your title shows a VIN different than the 91 VIN.

Also it is a FEDERAL crime to remove and swap VIN's

I thought about it for about half a second when I swapped the windsheilds around (the 85 had the antenna in the glass and I wanted it in the 91), but as 4X4HIGH stated it is a federal crime to remove and swap VIN's, so I wasn't going to mess with it.

The simple answer is NO.

That's what I thought the answer would be...
