I had to watch this twice. Only in my dreams I could afford something like those...

That's a new sport developed here in the Southeast - "Rock Bouncing". :woot: :pimp:

it's a cool sport, but to me personally, i see that video and the reason why trails are being shut down to quickly, the two go hand in hand to me.

Trails get shut down because in most cases, there's more people complaining then defending...

There are a lot of favorite trails in my home state getting closed down to Fullsize vehicles because of the over growth and lack of use... Then it ends up being turned into an ATV or Motorcycle only trail... Honestly I think these mean machines are not only badazz but good in a sense to keep trails open for Fullsize.

Also, most of the video you see is from private off road parks.

i love watching rock bouncers i just cannot stand that ridiculous tubework.

Yep, it's just kind of wierd, and I bet the designs are not as strong as traditional cage designs. They use alot of roll bending big arc tube design. If an arced tube is not suported by bracing it can continue to bend with enough impact.

Triangulation with straight tube in a cage is IMHO a better design. In other words, a straight piece of tube welded between two points has the same strength along the length of the tube in most cases, vs a dog leg bend or a single bent tube welded between two points does.

These guys will make a tube with a "(" in it for looks more then anything. Now if you were to compress that tube via a solid impact since it has a bend already started it will continue to bend, unless the center of the tube has support added. If a rig with a tube like this were to take a hit on center of the arc at 90deg from the bend it's also leveraging the weld points with a rotational force on the welds because the arc center is not in the same plain as the welded end points.

It's bad enough to have a straight tube take a big hit and hold up, but adding in a rotational force to the welds due to the tube being arced WILL add much more stress to the welds causing IMHO the weld to fail easier, or more then likely the tube to tear right adjacent to the weld itself.

For the record, it is bad ass to watch though.

Think of it like this. "__" < A straight piece of tube welded at both ends. Now a "V" which is of course exagerated but for examples sake I'm using a V. Both ends of the V are welded. Now apply force at the bottom point of the V @ 90 deg. It's going to rotate the tube and welds till something lets go much easier then the straight piece of tube will due to the leverage factor of the point not being in the same plain as the welded end points..

Same thing here. I was considering getting another XJ instead because they're all narrow trails. But I just can't turn down a K5 :waytogo: I like having space between my door and seat, seat and center console and all the way over.

Till I have to roll down the passenger window.

Last time I was on Left Hand fork trail, it got so narrow from over growth that it surprised me they did not close it to full size yet. I talked to the park and they said I could get a permit and widen the trail with my chainsaw:pimp:
