Okay guys, here it is finally!
This is our ultra-duty gas tank skid for the K5's. (haven't test fit it on a Suburban yet, but it should fit). The sides and mounting plates are all 3/16" steel, with weight reduction holes cut in. The bottom plates are a full 1/4" thick, and solid so they glide over rocks/stumps/whatever... There are two water/mud drain holes though, I didn't think we could do without those.
With all that steel, the downside to this one is shipping weight. It comes in on it's own at a full 80lbs, not including any packaging. It's hefty!!! This can be installed by one person and a floor jack (that's how I did the first one), but I'd say having your buddy around to help you isn't a bad idea, lol!

Here are some Pics:

Pricing: Weld-It-Yourself Kit, $220 plus shipping

I tried to keep the cost down as much as possible on this one, I have even less profit margin in it than most of my other stuff because I really think this is a good product and I know that you guys need these on your rigs!

Protect that Tank!!!!!!

PM me to order ;)

I know it's not a real-world, "came-down-and-landed-hard-on-a-rock" test, but it's the best I could do for today :)

No creaking, no bending, no nothing! And yes, both rear tires are off the ground, and supported ONLY on the jack and block of wood!! ;)

Great product! Does it hang lower than a stock skid?

Thanks! ...and great question, but hard to answer, lol.
There is about 1/4" clearance between the skid and a brand new tank, and then the metal is 1/4" thick. So it hangs down 1/2" total below a factory tank.
How that compares to a stock skid can vary. I've seen them come into my shop actually touching the tank, and I've seen them hanging way down below the tank, so it's pretty hard to say anything comparing to a factory skid since they vary so much.

That's a great product! If I end up keeping my tank in the stock location, I will think about ordering one of these in the future!

Love it and love your stuff.

Thanks guys!!

I took the Jimmy to Blazer Bash this past weekend, and I tried my best to land hard on some rocks... I only managed to hit it twice, once on a welded corner so it was certainly plenty strong there, and once not in the middle of the skid exactly but off to one side a little. That hit jarred the whole truck pretty hard, but it only scratched the skid a little tiny bit!! The paint came off, and there is a small scratch in the metal of the skid. I'm honestly surprised at how little damage the skid took!! :pimp:

This design is ready to go!! Allow me a week to put one together and pack it up for shipping though - they aren't sitting on the shelf "in-stock" waiting just yet! I'm not sure when I'll get these up on the website right now.

PM Me to order!!!

I was admiring that skid at the bash. Good to know I can get one. Now just have to find out if it will fit a first gen. A new tank is in the works anyway.

Thanks man! I was admiring your whole rig at the Bash, lol! Did you have your GoPro recording any of the time you were following me? I'd love to get some of that video if so....

Anyway, I don't have anyone close by that I know of with a first gen so I have no idea if the skid will fit. I assume probably not, so then the next question is how much modification would be required to get it to fit... PM me some pics of around your tank when you get a chance and we can compare :)

When I get ready to do the tank I will contact you. It has a pretty good skid now but it is solid and heavy and probably not as thick as yours. Plus doesn't look near as cool.

I am up in that area every month or two anyway so I could deliver the old one or even bring the rig up to use as a model.

I haven't had a chance to look through my go pro footage yet but hopefully in the next week. I think I have like 5 hours worth so its a good chance it picked up on you. I will also look through the pics wifey took.

I just installed one of these on AZblazer's '90, and it fit excellent to the truck!!! I will say that if I had taken the time to test fit before powdercoating, I would have trimmed the mounting tabs where they face toward the tank. It was very difficult to get over the tank weld flange. I ended up bending the rear flange down to get the mounts over it. I didn't want to cut the tabs after coating due to corrosion exposure. I know that the powdercoat won't withstand being scraped over rocks, but I will let the owner take care of that.
Otherwise, I am impressed!! Excellent work!

Yep, I found that too, but only after I shipped that one out, lol. Sorry about that. For some reason it fit fine over my aftermarket tank's flanges, but I tried to get one over a factory tank and ran into the same problem. The design has already been modified, and shouldn't be a problem for anyone in the future! Thanks for the input on this - and please feel free to post up some pics if you'd like :)

will this fit a 32gal suburban tank? i think they're the same width/length, just deeper.

Lol, Sorry I didn't get back to you on the previous post! I asked around and the general consensus is that yes, they are pretty much the same. I never got a definitive answer to the depth so I kinda dropped it and forgot to reply.
I think it should work, the depth thing is a 50/50 as is. I think that worst case scenario you would have to add some small spacers if the tank was too deep. If you want to give it a shot, I'll fab one and ship it to you - then if it needs spaced down a little I'll cut some spacers and ship those to you free of charge :)

Can you please provide shipping estimates to 95066?

I am interested, need to make sure my hitch does not get in the way.....

Has anyone tried this on a 31 gallon blazer tank?

Do you have any ready to ship out?

Would a non welded version save some $?
