im at a cross roads..

in the buggy I have the big block with a t-350 and just a simple twin sticked 205.. not a whole lot of gear reduction

if I purchas a stak I have to by the 27 spline to get it to work with the t-350..

problem is I plan to swap in a 6.0 that I picked up and I really want to run a 4l80e..

but I wont be ready for the 6.0 swap till after the wheeling season, parts build for the 6.0 looks to be well into the 7k range and if I build this the way I want i want to run a trans that wont cry with 550 plus tq/hp

next issue... im already planning and aquiring parts for my next buggy build since I really want a 4 seater so my plan was to wheel this one while building the other. plan for that one is a built 6.0/4l80e/stak 3 speed. rock wells/ 49s on a poison spyder bruiser chassis at 120" plus in wheel base.. I dont really want to buy two staks though$$

looks like im stuck or I have to just buy the stak put it behind my t-350 tans and leave the bug block in for a while,

my finger is twitchy and I am ready to order a stak but I dont want to regret it if I choose to go to 32 spline, I also dont want the down time of putting the 6.0 in right now.

other idea was to run the 6.0, just put a cam and heads on it and run the holly 950 cfm fuel injection kit, this would speed up the install but that does not help me with the tranny issue, maybe just run a built t-350? the 4l60 trans also looks to have a bitching 1st gear, but I run into a stand alone computer on that= time and wiring

why not just buy a used th400 for the time being? seems that they go cheap and they are 32t outputs, just like the 80e. It may put you out a couple hundred for now, but atleast you dont have to worry about incorrect input later...

btw, 4l80e is a badass trans. I love mine.

whos unit are you using to control yours?

also so I word it right I plan to have both buggys in the end, i wont be robbing parts off one or the other.

maybe the lowmax for now? the othe rissue is builing 2 of the same drive train will get stupid exspensive quick. seems the motor by the time it runs on its own with fi would be 7k, stak with shifter I want is 3k, and the 4l80 I could see being in the 2500 plus range real easy..thats 12k for each drive train but I really feel I am done with big blocks in buggys when I yank mine out. time for some modern motor with some weight savings!

other idea is to just buy the 27 splibe lowmax, run the big block till I have all the 6.0 parts and just do the cam/intake/headers and tune or put a carb intake on it and run the holly fi as mentioned and stay with a t-350 trans, then save the built 6.0 for the big buggy

Get a TH400 in your current buggy with a 32 spline Stak or Lomax 205. Then you can also swap a lowmax to a doubler with 6:1 later if you want to. Or you could do the 241 doubler with the lowmax for some wicked low.

Buy a 3spd stak for the next buggy with a built TH400. A 4L80E does you no good in a buggy cause you won't be using overdrive anyway. A 4L80E is just a TH400 with overdrive and more headaches to deal with and more money.

A 4l60e= BAD!!! a 4l60E is a 700r4 with I can break, and if I can break it you WILL break it.

Always remember that the only trans you havn't broken is a Th400. That is probably a sign that it is strong and that maybe you should run one again. A Th400 is also very simple, easy, and cheaper to work with. Follow the KISS theory. (Keep It Simple Stupid) That is the objective on my junk now. Less is more, and Less = Less headaches & money

P.S. Marv has a 2spd stak for sale. 5.44:1 version, you would just need a different input spline. Check it out over on locooffroad.com

So, you just got it put together, and you want to tear it apart? Let's see it wheel, and leave it alone.:deal: But, if you really want to spend $$, buy it for me. :D

Shawn doesn't really want to wheel a whole season , not sure why :dunno:

Most of us would rather wheel as spare time permits , and not spend time building , wheeling a couple times , and building again .

well I did talk to marve earlier and looks like I will be picking up his case and just changing the input,

I tink I am going to stay with the t-350 trans for now since I have 2 of them, but before I do all this ill look for a t-400, bummer is I then need the adapter and input plus getting a 1000k rebuilt 400..adds an extra 1300-1500 to the project when I already have 2 working trannys..

So use a TH350 and start aquiring all the part for the Th400. When you break the Th350 swap in the 400. Only problem is you will have to swap inputs on the stak twice that way.

I didn't have time to read the whole thread but all you have to do is change the inputs on the case. 6 bolts, a couple of snap rings press out the 27 input and re-install the 32 spliner and new seal.
