So was thinking to rebuild my stock Rochester carb.. but wanted to ask yall if I should upgrade to high performance and maybe even a intake manifold upgrade pros and cons ya'll TIA...

Usage?

Are you experiencing problems?

Upgrading is a slippery slope, especially when some modifications aren't really noticeable unless they are combined with a bigger group of parts (ex; intake manifold WITH headers).

Usage is for the 2-3 times a month cruise with the occasional outing here and there... no problems whatsoever other then the cold start issue... just wanting to get more power out of her...

So this depends on the condition of your q jet. I run a q jet no intention of changing it.
First if the top is warped there is no hope for it. Look at the seem between air horn and body, at front bolts. If it is not flat you'll need a different carb.
2nd the throttle shaft base plate holes, wear. This sometimes causes shaft to stick, as well as a vacuum leak. The base plate can be repaired. Unfortunately we just lost one of the better people to do this repair.
There are others that do this. Send it out, unless a you are a machinist then is defiantly a diy project. Though I would do my own and am not a machinist.

Nice I'm in Anaheim... soo might just give him a call do you know thw name of his shop ?
Click the link that @83ChevyK5Blazer posted above.

I had SMI build my Q-jet years ago. Nice job.

Your cold start problem could be just needing a little adjustment and the fact that carbureted engines can be a little finicky after sitting for a while.

To get more power, you will need some other upgrades besides the carb. The entire intake system works together. You can throw an 800 CFM Qjet on there but if the engine itself can't efficiently process all that extra available air and fuel, it just won't work properly. Carb, intake, heads and exhaust manifolds (not necessarily headers), and exhaust itself. They all work together. Heads being the most expensive. Intake being the cheapest.

Yeah it makes sense.. but sorry of it's a dumb question ( don't know much trying to learn ) .. what exactly do you mean by the heads? Upgrade on that as well ?

Notta dumb question. Never, ever, stop learning.

Heads are what your spark plugs screw in to. In a V-8, the heads sit at the top of the V tips, if that makes sense. Intake sits in between the V tips, kinda in a valley. Air cleaner sits on top of the carb, carb sits on top of the intake. Exhaust manifolds or headers bolt onto the outside edge of the V tips. Exhaust pipes bolt up to the exhaust manifolds. Different heads flow better than others and can be made for torque or HP. You may have a good set already and there are numbers on the heads themselves that can tell us. Give us more info on what you have and we can go from there.

Ok cool thx I'll certainly look into that

Eldelbrock carbs are great if you have some upgrades to an engine. Mine required lots of adjusting to stop dumping fuel like crazy.

If it's stock, stock with the qjet.
