Too much transmission fluid?

I had my transmission fluid changed last week and now the truck is shifting from 1st to 2nd harder than it did before. I tried to check the fluid level but it was on the entire stick (way over the full line). Is the hard shifting caused by the fluid level or is this just a side-effect of brand new fluid? I should say that the 'hard shift' isn't necessarily bad, just noticeably harder than before the change.
My mechanic checked it and agreed that it was a little overfull but said that it was fine. Is this true?

Was the trans hot or cold when you checked it, that makes a big difference in fluid levels.

Did you check it in neutral with the engine running? Too much fluid will not hurt the trans.....It just might make a mess when it boils over.

It was in park with the engine running. I had driven 10 miles before I checked it and ran through the gears too.

That was definitely on my mind. I just figured that the old fluid only had 15,000 miles on it and wouldn't have been that bad.

On an auto trans, too much fluid definitely can cause issues.

too much trans fluid will cause problems the truck will act stupid shift funny and not be as strong in gear best to go back to where it was changed and make them drain it out to the correct amount. or just drain if your self and refill to corret level common bad mistake.

too much fluid can also put more pressure on the pump seal and it will start leaking.

Generally the issue with overfilling an auto is that it will cause the fluid to start aerating (foaming) really bad, then the pump is sucking up foam and air versus fluid. I've done a lot of work for OEMs in the past and they are very picky on auto trans fluid levels when testing them, so much that you need to measure the fluid temps and then slightly adjust the fill level shown on the dipstick based on the temp. I know several OEM service manuals have charts where that show actual measurements on the dipstick versue fluid temps.

Could this be why my blazer won't pull itself up a hill? Won't even slip the tires.

On flat ground it does fine.
