I have a line on a sw 14bff and matching dana60 with 4.11's. Guy said he'll take $900. If they need SOME recondidtioning, will they still be worth it?

Thanks.

how much reconditioning? like brakes? if so, then its a fair price

I'm going to see them today or tomorrow. I am assuming they need brake jobs and general cleaning up. I don't belive they need a complete rebuild. We shall see.

When I pop the diffs, what exactly should I look for? Same with the drums.

Thanks.

Make sure water has not been sitting inside the diff and that the teeth on the gears look okay. As for the drums, just check to see what shape the drums are in and what the shoes look like. Also make sure that the wheel cylinders are not leaking. I would jump all over those for $900.

What he said, when I got my D60 I didn't even check inside the diff, because the BOM decoded that it had 4.10's. At home I got a nasty surprise. The diff was full of muddy water, NOT gear lube. The gears and bearings are shot. For my LOW initial purchase price, though, I figured I can deal with it.

If I were you I'd evaluate based on what a COMPLETE rebuild would cost....

Add up all the parts and then decide if it's still worth it to you. I paid $900 for the same setup you're describing and thought that was a pretty fair price.

....it's foolish to buy a set of 1-Tons and automatically assume that they will work fine because they "look" good. (Ask MuddinManny if you don't believe me!) take the extra time to tear it down, inspect everything and rebuild it RIGHT before you install it. :usaflag:

I paid that much for my combo and the 60 was in pieces. I put it back together with the existing parts except the outers got new bearings and ujoints and the 14FF got a new carrier, locker, and gears to match the front. All in all I got about 1800 in my front and rear. I also do not have discs on the rear.

i ended up completely rebuilding my 14b, and just replaced ujoints, lock outs, gears locker and install kit in the d60, everything else looked good
