On my way home (65 mile commute) in my 98 S10 P/U suddinly my passenger side window EXPLODES, I mean it litterly exploded!!

Glass everywere, no one was next to me and I didn't see anything. I thought I had been shot but no bullet holes in me or my truck that I have been able to find anyway????? Too weird, this was a very loud boom and glass flying everywere at 65mph. Definitally in the top 5 of wierd stuff happing to me in my lifetime

As long as your ok its cool for the moment. Dont touch anything. Call your insurance and wait for them to disturb stuff. BTW. Are there any impact areas on/around the door frame? Stand outside your door and look from Driver seat, in a clockwise scan, to rear. Just to check if a bullet entry wasnt made. You could be faced with one of those twilight zone ck5 experinces. At least we can laugh about it now.
 
Hmmmm Might have been some young punk with a red rider BB gun and you just haven't found the BB yet.
Could have been something off the road also. I had a bud run over a muffler and tail pipe one time. We got out and looked and didn't see anything...no flats nothing leaking and drove home. Next day he goes out reaches for the door handle on the passenger side and it was gone! Muffler kicked up caught it just right and sheared the bolts.
You might also want to check the inside of the door out and make sure that none of the guides has lost the felt and have some metal to metal contact going on that caused it to break.

Yaa, I was thinking it may have been a bb or pellet gun but the way the window expolded with so much force I don't know? Can a bb do that? I was going 65 too so thats one hellov a shot if it was a bb gun!???

Same thing happened to a friend of mine several years ago. He had gone to Florida to pick up his mothers car (some non-descript mid-size GM, maybe an Olds or Buick) and drive it back to Massachusetts. Somewhere on I-95 down around the Carolinas, the passenger side window just exploded. Scared the p!$$ out of him! He never did determine what caused it...

did you have all windows rolled up? my mother-inlaw had that happen to her and what it was,was that the baromic(sp?)pressure had changed suddenly with a storm and because the car had good seals it had different pressures inside than the outside that made the window shatter. take this info as you will this is what the insurance people told them and they did check the barometric pressure readings that day and there was a fast sudden change. anyone else hear of this?

I think I did have both windows up. The pass side was all the way up. I duno too wierd!!

That would cause it in theory. Same reason you can get broken windows when the air inside suddenly heats up or cools down. The pressure inside changes and has to release. Same reason your soda hisses when you open it. Unfortunately in this case, it releases right through the glass

The theory is right but wouldnt it have to be done in an airtight cabin? I think there is enough air leakage between ducts and window. Given the density of glass and amount of air shift needed. The pressure differential could/would affect the driver too. Did you feel a popping before the glass imploded/exploded? I am still chalking this one up to twilight zone. Kinda like my garge door opening for my truck. I had no transmitter, door locked, no retract springs installed, no one home, and the motor wasnt wired to the house yet. Scared the piss out of me.
 
I have seen it happen with sliding glass doors.

I think I have also seen it with a car too. It is kinda different though. It happened in the morning. It had been cold and when the sun started beating into the car, the greenhouse effect took over and shattered the window.

Speaking of garage door openers, I have a good twilight zone story solved on that one too. A guy I work with kept finding his garage door up when he went home. He finally figured out it happned whenever his neighbor got his grass cut. Turns out the lanscaping company used some kinda radio that ran on the same frequency as his garage door opener. Ain't that some weird sh!t??????

He is the same guy that tells me stories of his kids wind up telephone that used to change the station on the TV back in the say. Too many frequencies out there!!!!

Early TV remotes didn't operate using infrared light pulses, as they do today. The remotes had only a few simple functions. On, off, volume up, volume down, channel up and channel down. Pushing each button triggered a small hammer that would strike an internal tuning fork, tuned to a specific frequency. Each button had its own frequency. The TV had a circuit that "listened" for those frequencies and would respond when it heard them. So certain sounds would indeed make the TV "think" it had heard something and respond accordingly.

And that concludes todays electronics history lesson.

when i was a kid i had walkie talkie radio toys. I used to be able to listen to my next doo neighbors telephone conversations.

Window ever been replaced? My friends S-10 (1988) had a broken passenger window. I "helped" him replace it. The S10 window at that time was odd though, in that the bolts that retained it passed THROUGH the window. I never really payed ,uch attention as I installed the window, but an hour later, we went back out, and the window was shattered. I *think* what happened was I didn't get the grommets into the holes on the windows right when I cranked down on the bolts, and the pressure that generated somehow decided to relieve itself after we had walked away. Just a thought, IF those windows are done the same way.

Nope not that I know of, I bought the truck in Nov. of 97 with 11 miles on it so as far as I know thats factory glass.

I think if I don't find any holes then it's the Twilight Zone deal!

PS. Alot of my co-workers have never seen the K5 and they all want to go for a ride.

I've seen it happen because of the pressore before. About 4 or 5 years ago I went out to get the mail and walked by my parents' Voyager. The windows were fine, but when I got the mail and turned around the rear window was shattered! I thought someone had busted it out, but all the glass was on the outside of the van. The insurance guy said that it came from the pressure in the van.
