I'm checking out '87 Silverado K5 and its been parked due to the tranny being out. The owner is asking $1000 for it as is but she misplaced the title. The oil is good n clean. I said I wanted to hear it start. What else do I need to ask about it?

Ha., learned abit more today on the '87 Silverado K5. The last time it ran was 3 yrs ago and it was driven by a juvenile and it was high centered and had to be towed out. The tranny shifted into 1st & 2nd,..I put $250 as a down payment,...I'm really after the 5.7 engine!!! But I do believe I could get it running for it to become a DD,..(even though there's a mouse nest in the hood compartment,..I won't let no mice discourage me).

Be careful with the mice. I had a rat living under my hood while I was deployed and it chewed threw some of my wires.

Pull up the carpet and check for rust.

Coming from a guy who has really screwed himself over more than once. Dont pay more than 500 bucks TOPS. Dont buy it unless you have 1000 bucks in cash to put towards it and expect to spend every weekend for the next 3 months before it is anywhere near DD'able.

I'll further inquire on the asking price, knowing I'll be pouring plenty of $$$ into it. I did hear however where the rig is parked that the brother does want his mother's Blazer out of his yard. Plus they're looking for the title. On the nest it does look bigger then a mouse nest, now that I think about it. There are afew flaws, like the left rear shock is off the top bolt. Yea i agree I do need to really negoiate abit more on their asking price of this rig that hasn't ran and they weren't planning on getting it running. Thanks 85 Jimmy & gotblazers

If you haven't done so already, find out a little bit more about the title situation. Usually, a lost title can be replaced fairly easily, but I've had a couple friends that bought cars with missing titles and it was a hassle and a half to get them legit. Just something to be mindful of.

Well it's been parked for years, someone wants it out of there, has a bad tranny, I would offer them $500 MAX.
at that price you can be comfortable with fixing it and not start with a fortune.
If you hadn't shown how excited you were I would have said offer $250, but they probably won't budge now that you showed interest.

Unless you know this guy real well, the lost title situation is a big time no go for me. I once got screwed out of a truck cause it had a "lost title". Turned out they had gotten a title loan for it and never paid it back... So they owed the title loan place like 600 bucks and because it wasnt me that took the loan, i couldnt even pay it back to get it released! I ended up have to part the truck out cause it was impossible to get the title for it.

What I forgot to follow through on was taking the VIN#,...to do abit o background check?
