Sold my truck to a friend but he's only paid half so far. We knew of this mudrun for this coming weekend for a looong time but just decided Sunday night to start building it
First thing Monday morning I got started...
anyhow here's what we got done. Installed the 6" BDS lift and i'll tell ya those damn steering arms are a huge PITA. I cussed for 2 days on the 2 I had to pull
. Who knew you couldn't buy those stupid wedges
.
Next was the switch from the built auto I had (was supposed to have an awesome motor built for it a year ago and it's still not finished. It has a 350 turbo manual valvebody with 3500 stall) to the manual I sold him with the truck. Couldn't use the auto cause of the huge stall. That stock motor just didn't cut it with that setup.
We got that installed but the pedals and linkages fought me the entire way. What could go wrong did blah blah blah. Got that done then it was fluid change time. Bad news...it has factory 2:76?? Atleast that's what added up on my phone. The numbers on the ring gear was 17 47. Never knew Chevy made a gear that high. Other than gas mileage I see no possible use for it.
Well got the front driveshaft I kicked out of the ground installed with a u-joint I already had. Seems the lockout was stuck on one side (old spicer style) and so I pulled it. I had a Warn but it seems you had to change some stuff. Got the lockout freeand re-istalled it. It WORKED!
Soooo I pulled it out of the garage tonight on the front end and washed it off. Then built a driveshaft for the back. It'll be a mud/trail rig so balancing it wasn't really all that critical.
This is what I started with. The blue one
and this is how she sits now. Of course the tires are wayyy too small and the gearing blows but it will pull under it's own power
It's just to play a bit with. Did I mention it has a 2 barrel as well??
I do have to say it's been good to stay busy all day the last 3 days. I think i'll start on the crew cab next...
EDIT: Damnit i'm in the lounge! Can someone move it if it needs to go to the garage
