thanks for the info! I will give him a call here in a few days hopefully. where is the resident tool guys?

sled dog is the only one i know of... does mac... rarely on these days...

Whatever happened to Confedneck He was a Snap-On truck man.

Sorry I am rarely on these days. I am a Matco distributor, feel free to hit me up if you still want info. I will make a point to check in to the site more often.

I have been spinning wrenches now at a dealer for 12 years now. I am honestly over it and thought about going this route. I talked with MAC they have a good program going on right now, but the economy scares me, I know I and most other guys in my shop have little left over money to buy more tools. I have been doing this so long I have pretty much everything, but you always need something. I will be keeping an eye on this thread.

One thing I am led to believe you live and die by the route/territory you are given. True?

It really depends on your area, but in many ways yes. By the letter of the contract I can't expand past what I am given territory wise. Now I have gone outside of that, but with the permission of the guys who I am treading on their territory. Sometimes territories can be laid out dumb. Mine starts about 2 miles from my house, and between me and there is a shop that I go to. It is in another guys territory but seriously I drive passed it EVERYDAY, so it makes no sense for him to go there.

I won't say I am making a killing, but I am paying the bills. And that includes paying off a DSLR camera and an 08 Snowmobile. So I guess I am doing decent. Hope it picks up though. I am also an odd salesman. I am not pushy, and don't have a killer instinct. It hurts me a lot of times, but my customers respect me as an honest straight-up business man who isn't gonna sell the next young kid that comes along a cart before a horse.

Just sucks to be that way sometimes cause I walk into shops and see a young guy with some big expensive Snap-On box they didn't need, paid too much for, and they never even talked to me about it. Why? Cause I don't hound them telling them they need a box to be a real tech.

Ive been a mechanic for 15 yrs and 2 of my friends are mac and snapon salesmen. The buddy who does snapon does real decent for himself where as the mac buddy is hurtin cuz he cant keep up with mac required sales.

I was talking to MAC. They offer free training, full financing, etc to get you started, tools, truck everything. Start up cost was next to if not nothing right now. Seems too good to be true. I know Snap-on has a decent size start up cost, but its a well know world recognized brand thats been around for ever, and they are at every dealer or shop. Seems like you would have to try to fail to not atleast break even with their truck.
