I need to make a top for Horton here soon. Got 2 kids now and wheeling with them is not going to be good if I don't have a top.

We have a sewing machine that is supposed to be able to sew through just about anything. My wife knows a bit about sewing but we have friends who know a lot.

I am considering Sunbrella material. Anything else out there that you have used, the sunbrella is not too expensive by the yard either

Also wondering about attachment methods. I want the material to wrap around the bars and attach to itself with velcro, anyone see any problems with this?

Instead of sewing, you should be posting trip reports. See bottom line of signature.

A little known fact, DokWatson knows how to sew... if you can sew a parachute, you can sew anything. Your plan sounds like it should work. I could probably send you some pictures of good strong stitch patterns to use.

I used Top Gun Marine Fabric, it was relatively cheap when I researched it. Our medium duty sewing machine worked fine, I actually did the work. I used some velcro/snaps and was able to buy it from the local Chinese fabric lady.

In my research the sunbrella fabric seemed the best to use as well

the thing with velcro is ive always heard people complainng that the top got loose and floppy.

im sure you could do that at the sides, but the front and rear need to be secured well, unless your gonna just go slow and it wont bother you.

Post up what you come up with as this is still a project i need to do

i was thinking could stitch in some loops and get some short little bungees that could wrap around the bar and attach into the loops? maybe use a caribiner type clip so that its quickly/ easily removable while mainting enough tension to not have a bird flapping above your head all the time

Trying to remember where everything was, photobucket didn't load them in order. I know I know, the purse is down I will get on it

I plan to have the material wrap completely around the front and rear and side bars but your right I should have someway to tighten it front to back.

As far as speed goes well Horton is very very fast :haha: but having the material wrapping around the front bar should keep speed from being an issue. As should my motor
