I've never taken the top off my K5 (or any) before. I bought replacement weatherstripping for the roof and sides. Before I attempt this replacement is there any thing I need to look out for? Any advice would help thanks.

If the topper has never been off it likely still has the two bastard bolts at the very back that you can't see. They go up into the top from underneath, and if you have the upholstered side panels access is behind those panels.

The rest is pretty easy. Have a friend or three help lift it off.

I swear GM made the top removable, but didn't actually want anyone to remove it.

Not really, not 100% about the very back two on the full tops. The full top has the triangle pieces at the window header up front. You need to be gentle removing the bolts there or you'll break the inserts free and they'll just spin.

:haha: any difference in difficulty between the full tops and half tops. I got a 73 and 76 blazer i havent tooken the top off either.

Funny in one way, but also pretty true. If you think about it, when the K5's first came out the hardtop was an option, so was a soft top. By the late 70's and early 80's the hardtop was standard. They started installing the two hidden bolts, then they went a step further and bolted the thing down with security torx head bolts.

I'd bet they started rumors about hardtop seals leaking if you ever removed the top (they don't..I've never had a hardtop leak yet). Almost everyone believes they'll leak though...that rumor had to start somewhere.

True Rene. My hard top seals are pretty wrecked in the middle of the cab but they have never leaked.:dunno::haha:

fwiw, mine leaks.
only in SERIOUS downpoor with the car sitting still tho. the water has to pool along the seal to the cab.

the seals are totally shot tho, so its not the cars fault.. its seals that are 200k old and sunbaked (cracked).

woulda been nice to know before i bought the truck so i could have prepared before the rain came the first time hahaha.

that explains why the truck had no headliner when i bought it ;) probably was water logged and ruined.

Seals

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm still learning this truck. Yeah the roof leaks on the passanger side, right behind the seat. Enough that there's a heavy wet spot on the carpet. (thats what she said).:haha: The outer seal breaks apart in your hand if you mess with it, so being a novice detective it's gotta be the seals.
