Hi there, Can anyone tell me the best way to lift the top off a '74 K5? I was thinking of using some straps and eye bolts to lift the top to the ceiling of the garage. Any ideas or pictures would be appreciated. Thanks

This is for an '87 K5 but should still work.

After removing all the bolts that hold the top on, I lift the front of the top first and slide a 2x4, 82" long, between the top and rail. Then do the back of the top same size 2x4. Install the eyebolts.
The eyebolts are about 2" from the end of the 2x4. You'll need a rope for each eyebolt.

For the ceiling I used 2 eyebolts at each corner.....1 set for the pulleys and 1 set for the ratchet straps.
Single pulleys for the front and dual pulleys for the back.

To keep the 2x4s from moving: Line up the 2x4 to the bolt hole that holds the top to the rail. That places the 2x4s close to the ends of the top. So I use a large screw and a washer to hold the top to the 2x4s.

I start with one side and lift about half way up, tie the rope off to the bumper, then do the other side. Go back to first side and lift to ceiling and then do other side. Hook up ratchet straps to other eyebolts and secure.

I can remove or install the top in about 20 minutes.

Two 2x4 and four ratchet straps with eyelets in the rafters. It was the easiest way to do it. Or if you have four strong friends. But this method you can do alone and it also gives you somewhere to store it off the floor.

Thanks for the pictures, very helpful. I like it. I was looking for a way to lift it without a lot of assistance, this will work. Thanks to all that replied.
