My top hasn't come off yet, but seeing as how I can't lock my truck anyway (the ignition key isn't the same as the doors, and I don't feel like having the doors re-keyed) and I leave my window down all the time, I doubt I'll worry too much about it. It's not like I have anything in my truck anyway. No radio, cb, anything like that. Some straps, chains, and miscellaneous oils in the back. I do plan on getting one of those locking toolboxes though to throw in the back.

my top is off all the time and havent had any probs yet <knock on wood> i just built a canvas back for it and im going to put a couple of small lock boxes in the bed. all in all it has cost me $120. pics are going to follow soon.
im going to be loosing the doors to soon, gonna make some canvas ones too. i figure if they want anything in it they will just bust out the windows or jack up the door anyways. put an infared sensor in it so it will beep ya when someone reaches in to it

You know you can get a 3-lock set, all keyed the same, for like $35 from chevy duty, right?

I didn't ! That's pretty cool to know, my single ignition key is so worn the copies I've tried making don't work.

Glad to help! :D

And now you won't even get killed on exchange rates. Probably still have to pay duty, though. Damn gubmint has their claws in everything.

If you're not in a hurry, I'll be up in Kitchener in August.

edit: don't know what year your truck is but 73-78 is Part # 53-481; 79-87 (-91 Sub and Blazer) is Part # 53-482

But they aren't $35. They're $24! :D

Sweet. I might look into that. Even though I did just get done buying a new ignition switch:rolleyes:

If ya get a Locksmith to make them, he uses the code to make them, not the old keys, and they're like new keys and locks. Dollar apiece is what I pay.

I figured I could pull that off somehow. I'll be looking into that next week. Thanks.

Unfortunately, that requires you to have the code, which most people don't have unless you bought the vehicle new and kept the tag or it's a late enough model that they can look it up by the VIN.

Unless you know some trick I don't!

The guy I use just matches up the pattern on a "tool" that punches the new key. He said that CHevy keys only have a small number of patterns. He did it in the back of his van last time.

That's cool. And then if he punches it wrong, he can just try again right then and there.

That won't get you all three locks keyed alike, though. I've heard from more than one locksmith that it's easier and cheaper to just replace these locks than to re-key them.

Hey Sunny how'd ya like the weather this morning...get a little wet?:D

Haha , it almost did. I put a tarp over the back before it got dark.
