Top storage

I bet some of you guys out there have some creative pully systems for storing your top? I used to take it off and put it on by myself. I'm just too dang old for that chit anymore. Plus I got too much stuff so no where to put it. I came up with a semi quick solution tonight. Even though it's temporary I'm not feeling real good about it's, reliability.

Here’s one pulley system. Could have been done a little cleaner but you get the idea. Some people use an electric hoist from Harbor Freight attached to four cables, one to each corner. Then there are two 2x4s that go from side to side with eye hooks in them. Easy to slip the 2x4s under the front and back by yourself.

That's a great link. I have a hand winch like that somewhere I was thinking of using. I just couldn't kick my brain into figure it out mode. Now I'm 3/4 the way there. Thanks

i did something very similar to the OP's setup only with one of the harbor freight boat ratchet hand winch deals. It works ok, I dont keep mine in the garage because blazer barely fits as is. Ive got an old hose shed type thing on the back of the house that i use.

This is it not all the way up to the ceiling. The only thing that sucks is that due to the roll bar it’s still not really a one man job.

I like the idea of one initial strap. You could make that a one man deal if you bolt 2X4s along the rails where it bolts to bed? Without 2X4s crossing the bed? Might put too much stress the bottom lip?

This is just the pic I had in phone, I’ve actually changed it up a bit. I’ll get a pic tomorrow, the straps now wrap around the top so it doesn’t scratch anything. The frame is on top now.

It works well, just need a guide line because the flat strap try’s to make it spin sideways. I was trying to do it cheaply. The design is solid, execution was meh.

I use the seat belt anchors in the top with eye bolts, large washers and Jam nuts against the washers to keep it all tight 4 places . Place a 2x4 across the back inside to prevent flexing.
2 straps out the back window cut out and one out each front door window cutouts to a single cable in the middle. Used adjustable straps to get the balance correct.
Through a series of pulleys in the rafters to a hand crank mounted on the side wall.
Raise the top up to the ceiling with the crank and then support the bottom of the top one front one rear width wise with landscape timbers hanging with chains from another set on the ceiling rafters to spread the weight.
Works good with no need to slide 2x4’s under the top before lifting.

Another set of shoulder belt anchors in the top. Covered with white plastic covers just like the front.
