Got an option on an aluminum topper for $50. Seems to be in good shape and solid. With the prospective move coming up I could really use a topper for the haul across parts of 3 states.

However the topper is on a '94 GMC 1500 with a 8' bed. Guy says, "it fits a bit wide on the bed" whatever that means.

Anybody know the measurements of a 88+ IFS fullsize truck 8' bed vs a 73-87 style 8' bed? How about if the toppers would exchange?

When we measured my Dads 89 nbs vs my 82, mine was wider. It would still work if you drilled holes. If i recall it was about half a inch on both sides of the bed rails that exposed.

Me and a friend put a newer fiberglass topper on his '86 c10, the only problem is, I don't remember if it came off a Chevy or a furd:doah:

I have a '78 and an'88 in my driveway right now. The '88 measures 63 3/4" at the cab end, 63" over the rear wheels, 62" at the tailgate. The '78 measures 66" at the cab 66" over the rear wheels and 65 3/4" at the tailgate. Measurements were taken at the inside of the bed rail. The width of the "mounting surface" is comperable on both trucks, I think the new topper would fit the older body if you added a 1x8 board and an adapter??

Dude, thanks!

Are those measurements from the inside lips of the bed or some point on the outside towards where the body curves downwards?

Adapter?

Inside of the bed rails, sorry i left that out. Adapter... I envision the new topper setting on the old style bed very narrow, like catching an inch on either side. Add a 1x6x8 inch board to either side of the topper, clamped bolted however and walla, instant "adapter" that allows for better mounting surface area.

Ah...gotcha.

Turns out the guy knows a bit about GM trucks and thinks this cap actually came off of an older truck. He got it from the road commission and they put the cap in it when it was new he thinks. Trying to find out if it's a cap or a whole slide in bed unit.
