I'm trying to make some cuts but I keep having trouble with the acetylene. I'm having trouble getting any pressure to the tip. At first I thought my tank was empty (I've got crappy, hard to read gauges), but the problem persists. I took the hose off the torch and I seem to get plenty of gas to that point, but even with the knob all the way open I'm getting almost nothing at the tip.

I replaced the tip too, so I know it's clean. Is it possible that there is some blockage in the torch itself? :dunno:

I was messing around with it a few minutes ago and now I'm getting no oxygen either. Do these ever need to be taken apart and cleaned or something? :dunno:

Help out a noob! :D

You are probably right about a blockage in the torch. There is either debris in there or the valves are not working properly. You could do a google search for repair or cleaning of an oxy torch. I haven't had the valves apart on one. Also, I was always warned not to use any oil or similar products near oxy/acc torches or regulators for welding gases. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along with additional advice.

As usual, it comes down to something stupid simple... like cleaning your damn tools.
I took the torch apart and cleaned every orifice I could find and presto, working like new again. /sigh

Seeing as that looks to be an old Victor you could take it to your local welding supply and they would send it out to get rebuilt. Might be worth it. Something to think about anyways
