torque converter for a rock crawler?

Well, I'm no tranny/converter expert but, I'm rather pleased with my diesel converter. Seems like someone said they stall around 800 rpm. Certainly not in the TBI 350s "sweet spot" but it works well in the rocks. I can power brake it and it just creeps through nicely at around 1500 rpms. I would rather have better gears (TH400, 205, 4.56 and 42s is less than ideal) but this works ok for now, till I can get a doubler or something. On the other hand, it doesn't work so well just driving around (like dirt roads). The engine can't spin up into the higher parts of it's power curve so it's balky.

My old blazer had some sort of rv/performance converter in it with the 454. Ran great on the street, but slipped too much in the rocks and steep climbs, and then it would come in strong and launch you forward. I was always thinking of putting a different converter (lower stall) in it but I was too lazy and never got around to it. Besides, the K5 was dual purpose and it worked great on the street.

Ok, you convinced that final nagging in the back of my mind. With your tires, you're geared just about the same as me. I'm going to go stock. Cheaper, sounds better for this engine, and well, cheaper.
