well my engine is done along with my trans now I need to pick a torque converter.

so the question for you all is wich one to get?

intended use camping and family wheeling, here in Idaho we have everything rocks, mud and sand.

truck 82 k5 I plan to run 35's with 3.73 or 4.10 gears, th350 trans 208 TC and 383 engine fuled by TBI.

engine specs
91 350 truck block with the factory heads scat crank and 5.7 rods.
it has a comp cam http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=174&sb=2 as you can see this is just a mild motor its just going to make a lot of torque.

th350 was rebuilt with a transstar kit and B&M shift kit using the truck options.

I also talked to transstar and there th400HO converter is out of stock but has been in production for the last month with none shipped out yet. I am looking for an alternate converter I can get sooner. so I can get the drive train back between the frame rails.

as always your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

With that cam and engine build you can get away with a reasonably low stall speed of less than 2000RPM I think a TH-400 converter will be a good choice for you, these are durable, have extra fluid capacity over the 350 and will run reasonably cool for a non lockup design. The Transtar part number you would need is GM3-HD for about 1500 stall heavy duty or GM3H for an 1800-2000stall speed and a little better bottom end take off. You can split the difference in stall speed with a JA7 but those may be a little hard to find.

thank you Greg! I believe the GM3-HD is the one that is in production but out of stock at the moment. if that is your number one pick if you where doing it I guess ill have to wait till it hits the shelf:bow:

I would probably use the JA7 if they had one, these were used in V12 Jaguars and have the later style bearing and reinforced fins. It will give you a bit more stall speed over the GM3-HD which might be nice with the cam you have.

I called to confirm and they had one on the shelf, I picked it up last night :woot:...

thank you for your help again Greg:bow:
