My buddy has a 93 2500 truck w/4l60e when he starts it and leaves it in park it is fine, but when he puts it into gear it bogs down and stalls out like a manual tranny would. Is there an electrical connection or solenoid somewhere that could be causing the torqe converter to stay locked up? Could it be something simple like this, or is the tranny gone? I appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

Torque converter clutch will stall the engine if the solenoid is screwed up.

Unfortunately with a 4L60E I have no idea how the TCC is setup, on the older vehicles you could simply unplug the 4 wire connector to disable TCC and see if the problem went away.

Not saying the TCC IS the cause, but I would imagine you should have some codes in the computer in any case.

The torque converter itself is probably bad. I don't think a 4l60 can apply the clutch unless the trans is in second third or fourth, so even if the tcc apply solenoid is bad it still wouldn't apply the clutch (like the old gm transaxles did). I could be wrong so you could try and replace the TCC solenoid, it's really quite easy.

I've seen several converters come apart and do exactly what you're describing. It's usually easy to tell by pulling the pan and inspecting for metal. Or roll under the truck while it's running sometimes the converter will sound like it's full of rocks.

im not trying to hi-jack , im just telling my story.mines doing the same thing, i have a 700r with a new TC, it was fine when i put it in gear but now, if i sit for more then 15 mins(off) i have to leave it at about 1500rpm for mmm,10 secs then put it in gear, if i just start it and put it in gear it sits in "neutral" til i rev it then CLUNK and the TC acts like its a stuck clutch then it will stall if i get on the brake or i can chug along then i hear its just un-stick,then rpms rev up a little bit and it acts normal after that. im just waiting for it to die and buy a new tranny and TC that can handle my motor from 700r4.com
