While putting engine and trans back together, I was preparing to put the torque converter on the flywheel and ooops...the converter tips over and a small amount of spillage occurs. Not much, maybe a 3 inch puddle....question is, what should i do now? Pour a little fluid back in.... Is there a way to get all old fluid out so I can replace with new? Also...can someone inform me on what size bolts hold the converter to the flywheel? Seems as if I lost the bolts too! 350 with 700r4

STOP RIGHT THERE! Put the t/c on the trans first. This will take some wiggling and turning to get it in all the way. Kinda support the weight while turning and wiggling it into the trans. Don't force it. There should be a few series of depths it will stop at untill it clunks all the way in. You want the face of the t-c to be well inside the mating surface of the trans bellhousing, like 1.5"-2" at least. Then when you seat the trans up to the engine you should be able to spin the t/c freely by hand. If the 2 surfaces dont come together and the t/c is up against the flexplate, then the t/c is not seated in the trans all the way.

Putting it in the way you first described would only result in big $$ and aggravation to repair the trans.

Hold the t/c up 90* to the floor and let whatever excess fluid drain out into a pan so that you are not fighting a spill while trying to seat the converter. Once you get everything together and running you will need to add atf to the trans untill it is at the proper level, the pump in the trans will fill the t/c the rest of the way while you are doing this.

I believe ARP makes some good replacement t/c bolts. You shouldn't need them for a while so get them ordered up.

Thanks! I tried it both ways, but I guess it wasnt seated all the way in the trans. Ill try it again that way! Much appreciated brother!!

It'll take patience but it will go in.

Crisis averted. I'm going back to my mild mannered alter ego now.
