I installed a 4L80E/NP 241c.
The torque rod that I have is from my original set up, 700R4/NP 241c.
The torque rod is 2 inches short from reaching the bell housing.

Is this a bad idea?
Installing a stud and 2 inch spacer to make up the distance?

Or cut, extend and weld it up?

Thank you,
Ed

I would think a long stud and spacer wouldn’t handle the stress or leverage well. You don’t want to take a chance on a bellhousing faster breaking.

I’d get a piece of tubing and sleeve the rod.

Seen a few cut and spliced longer . That be my vote .

Longer bolt/stud and spacer = more leverage to snap it faster .

Ok,
Thank you all.
I kind of felt the spacer stud idea was half ass!
Embarrassed to have ask this question know!

That's why I come to you guys for good solid advice, Thank you very much!

Don't feel bad-a lot of things might seem stupid but work well! You put the question out there for feedback because you were smart enough to question your first idea.

Do you still need the torque rod though? For some reason I thought they stopped using them on the GMT400 trucks on up and the general idea was they weren't needed with the lighter aluminum t-cases. I'll be in the same boat soon with my 6.0/4l80e/241 swap going in my 84 K5 and was planning on leaving it off unless it is needed after all...

gmt400 went ifs and the drive shaft for the front was more fixed and almost zero movement .

thats prob why they stopped in my opinion .

yes, I still need it, but I think the 4L80E is longer then the 400?
4L80e 26-1/4 inch, 400 24-3/8s?
