Torque Wrench???

Yep, I've re-packed my bearings many times, I've had 3 different front axles under my truck! Never used a torque wrench, I've been tought another method that works satisfactorily.

Sometimes I really wish I did have a good torque wrench, but I just don't have the money for it.

have the hammer and pry bar, but sometimes it just aint close enough!!!!

you hit the nail on the head. time is of the essence. use what works.

As Qouted:
"...I really don't see the need to torque U-bolts, spring bolts, or any of that. I think those things can't get tightened ENOUGH!"

"Yep, I've re-packed my bearings many times, I've had 3 different front axles under my truck! Never used a torque wrench, I've been tought another method that works satisfactorily."

And why have you had to swap axels. Because of Failed parts???????????? Maybe it wasn't the parts fault!!!!!!

Goodness!!!!! I have never seen so much trivial bickering on a forum in all my days on the net and boards on my different hobbies! I've only been looking at this board for prob 6 months and it seems there is constantly some post(s) that gets blown out of the water with disagreements and arguing. I mean, come on, we're on the same team here, right? I know I might get some "well then don't come here" posts and that is fine. It just seems a shame that all the great people here with their wisdom have to witness the insanity. Sorry O/T...Just venting..... Can't we all just get along. :-)

This is really rare on here - usually there's only one bickering thread going around if any. Don't worry - we'll be back to normal soon enough!

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all

JarheadK5, I couldn't have said it better myself! Maybe Snap-On only ships their bad torque wrenches to the Army? We've had a hell of a problem with them even though we take very good care of them.

By the way, how do you like those new cammies and brown boots?

I work at a Sear's auto, so I have a lot of Craftsman stuff. More than likely this is due to the 25% employee discount I receive

and because the rolling box I got from a garage sale last year was full of it. For ocasional backyard use, save your cash and get the Craftsman one. We use Craftsman T/W's at work, since replacements are convenient (when you use a torqure wrench dozens of times a day, they all wear out no matter what so we use the ones we can walk upstairs and replace for free), but all our impact tools are Blue Point (Snap-on's bargian brand, same stuff, different label). Snap on is better stuff but more expensive and for most jobs in your driveway Crafstman is fine and easier to return should it break. For some tools such as brake line wrenches, dont buy anything but Snap On. Anything else will flex and round off the fittings. Like everyone has said, treat them like glass, stop when they click, dont use them as a breaker bar and they will last. Also, return them to 0 after your done so you dont preload the internal spring.

Who's bickering?????

Everyone has they're preference!

I've had to swap front axles because I keep breaking the rears and they've got to match. Why that happens is a series of long stories but it's not due to improper assembly or off-roading, believe it or not.

Just buy a good one so you don't have to replace it in a couple of years! Just buy a f**king torque wrench!

The cammies look OK for the most part. They could have been worse, though. When the online survey was up for the cammies, they had some crazy stuff up there. One of the options was zip-off sleeves on the blouse, another was mid-height boots with gaiters... As far as the boots go, well, let's just say that I REALLY like the fact that my usual uniform on drill weekends is a flightsuit and flight boots!

If at first you don't succeed, failure may be your style...
