Torque wrench

Sorry, never finished. I need a torque wrench (inch pound) for setting up the crush sleeve on my g80 gov loc pinion shaft. It sets at 20 to 25 inch pounds. Can't figure out what particular torque wrench will work. Any suggestions?

Instead of buying a dial style torque wrench which you’ll hardly ever use you can rent one from your local parts store. Or you can use a $2 fish scale to accomplish the same thing. Connect the scale anywhere that’s convenient on your wrench, measure the distance (in inches from the center of the pinion to where the fish scale is connected. Pull on the scale so that it’s always perpendicular to the wrench (in other words, so that you rotate in a circle). Multiply the reading on the scale by the distance on the wrench.
For example, if you connect the scale 5 inches from the center of the pinion and the reading on the scale says 4 lbs, that would be 20 inch pounds.

Any reason one of these won't work?

If you do anything else like mount rifle scopes and what not, these are handy to have, so at least you'd have another use for it. :)

That type sets to a specified torque, it doesn't measure the torque, which is what you need to do when setting pinion preload. You need to see if you are close or far from the spec. You are really measuring how much torque it takes to rotate the pinion, not how tight the nut is. Hopefully that makes sense @dyeager535

also look in to a crush sleave eliminator kit and dont play with the sleave again .
I just bought one of these from ECGS when I bought new ring gear bolts for my Detroit install.

Nifty looking piece. I dont plan on using it anytime soon but if thay 14 bolt ever comes apart it will be going in.

Something to make life a little easier.

This is the one I use. Along with about 16 adapters to get it up to the size of the nut.

I also did the crush sleeve eliminator on my gear install. So easy to set up compared to having to put massive torque to get the sleeve crushed. well worth the price.
