Total Newbie Question

I have done a couple of searches and am still wondering:

What lubricant does a NP 205 need? Gear lube?

I know a 208 needs a lighter fluid like 10W-40 or ATF.

gear oil is fine, i also think atf is ok. i remember someone mentioning that for the newer ones atf is recomended. not sure about that but i know gearoil works great

AFAIK, ATF in an NP205 is a big no-no. It's nowhere thick enough.

I'd only use gear oil, 80/90.

like i said i wasnt sure, it may have been the 203 case that it was recommended for (basically the same thing as a 205, at least the reduction box) but i do remember a post where this was recommened. not saying i would run it though.

I say you could still be crazy...

Unless there's some information out there that I don't know about (entirely possible), ATF doesn't have the shear strength needed for an NP205.

i never said id run it, just that it had been mentioned that atf could be used. i never said there was any evidance that it would work fine. if you look at that post i recommended 80/90 gear oil. thats what id run cause i know 100% it would work
