Hey guys! After much grunting and groaning, snoman87 and myself were able to get my SM465/205 combo into my truck :D

However, I'm finding it nearly impossible to get the transfercase into 2hi. 4lo, Neutral, and 4hi are easy to get the t-case into, but when you try to go from Neutral to 2hi, or from 4hi to 2hi, the transfercase just kinda quickly jumps past 2hi, and into the next gear. I actually have to get on it with both hands, and very, very carefully tap it into 2hi, and even then, it misses it most of the time.

Is there anything I can do to remedy this? The shifter has a bit of side to side play, and that little rod between the shift rails, and the shifter doesn't seem to sit at quite the right angle to be flush. Will replacing the rod, and fixing the play in the shifter help me out?

im confused...

i went out today...
straight forward is 4L then N then 2H then 4H

all I do is grab the shifter while sitting still and pull back.. she goes straight in.. then a nudge forward is 2H

I even did it while driving too... came out of a hole in 2H roostering.. and slammed into 4H for a deeper pit!!!! :haha:

Yep, I have no problem getting it into 4lo, N, or 4hi, but when I try to shift from N or 4hi to 2hi, it skips right over 2hi. I can feel the shifter hit 2hi, but before I am able to react fast enough to stop it, it comes right out and into the next gear. Its like there is nothing to stop it in 2hi before it goes to the next gear.

Yah then you can have two shifters that don't jump in right or even better yet one that does and one that doesn't :D

I am thinking that either the detent ball and spring are worn or the shift rail is worn down so that the ball slides right over. Look at the details on twin sticking and you will get the idea of what is supposed to stop the rail in each position.

Do you happen to have a link to a tutorial? I've got a good divorced 205 that I can take a couple parts from till I need it for a 4l80e or NV4500 swap
