tow/haul mode not working???

It stopped working this past week...push the button, and nothing happens....rap the gear selector lever and sometimes it will work.
So how do you get the selector lever apart where the button switch is on the end?

I have this problem too. Rapping the lever used to work and now it just doesn't work at all. From what I have researched, it seems that a wire often breaks at the base of the shift lever where it goes into the column. It appears to be a pretty common problem. There is a cover on the column you can remove to gain access to the wire but I have not I had time to dig into it on mine yet. I hope to do it sometime this week and will report what I find. Mine is a 2002, what year is yours?

you are right on the money,pull the upper and lower column covers and look for the little orange wire,find the break,repair it and you are good to go.
Seems to be a common problem,I fix about one a month.

mine is a 99 2500....thanks for the insite guys...I'll get on it hopefully soon.

repaired 2 so far orange wires should be the problem.
