I have a 84 chevy 4x4 1 ton dually with a 454 and a th400 in it. The 454 has a bad knock comming from the lower end, so a rebuild is in need.

Here's my question, should I rebuild the 454, or I can get my hands on a turboed 6.2 and I know were I can get a 8.1. Wich one should I go with?

I'll be using the truck mostly for towing a tag trailer with a skidsteer hauling my other trucks around.

Thanks for the help.

The 8.1L swap is involved, but after some of the documentation of these LS swaps on this site, i think its do-able.

For the improved reliability / drive ability, if you are already looking at 1500-3000k in a motor swap, it seems silly not to go with one of the newer 8.1's or 6.0L's.

True, from what I've read on doing the 8.1 swap on another site it looks like its a major pain in the *** to do the swap on the electrical side of it. I'll look into it more on this site.
Thanks for your impute.

If its the electrical you are worried about, buy a modified harness from someone. Other than gauges, to get the motor to run, some are as simple as 3 wire hookups.....

Yes, you need to understand wiring, but i'd think you would end up with a lot more reliable rig.

Its a 1700runner ton, its towing, it needs power while still having respectful power, 12 valve cummins time
