I recently inherited my father in laws 92 k2500 light duty, its rated at 7200 gvwr. My k5 weighs in at 6k.. I am nervous that with a trailer probally gonna weigh 1200-1500 Ill be over taxing the truck..

Its got a 4inch superlift 33 inch load range c generals at2's and the 350tbi 4l60 and 3.73. super chipped, should I be worried? It seems like it makes a ton of off idle torque. but doesnt do much after 3500.. oh it has a custom hd converter stock stall.

The GVW of the truck is different than the towing capacity of the truck GCWR...

GVW=total weight of truck, passengers and cargo in the bed, this is the amount the truck and suspension can safely haul.

GCWR=total weight of the truck, passengers, trailer weight, cargo in the bed. This is the amount all combined that the truck can safely carry and tow together.

It seems a bit over what that truck can safely pull IMO...how far are you towing?
The tires should be at least load range D, for towing that much weight. And that combo will work its nuts off towing that kinda weight.

Id be towing 50-60 miles some tall hills.. prob gonna be right lane flashers 15 mph..

We pulled my k5 home behind a short bed standard cab 93 K1500 on c-load 32s and 3.73s. Dad ran 65-70 once we got the K5 over the axles where the truck wasn't wagging around. We've always pulled car trailers with half ton trucks.

Don't be afraid to stop and move the load around till it drives the best. Do you have electric brakes on the trailer and a good controller? Just be more attentive and prepared for people around you to be morons.

Not sure on the year but my buddy had a long bed extended cab heavy half. I.E. it was pretty dang similar to your truck.

IIRC it was rated to tow 9k.

I have also towed my blazer, broncos, and a full size ramcharger with half ton trucks.

Never had a single problem. No braking problems, no handling problems, no crazy bad things happening.

Trailer brakes are more important to me than the brakes on the tow rig. If they are working. IMHO ( cause I can't back it up with numbers) you are more than safe towing proposed load with proposed truck
