I recently realized I dont think ill be doing too much towing with my 07 anymore and I really like beating on it hard so I need somethng else..

Ive always wanted a kodiak or topkick in single cab form with a dually bed on the back. Looking to drum up ideas and ask questions.

I can find them between 3-5k with the 366 industrial gas motor and the allison trans. I also see the cat diesel motor in a handfull of them for around 5-7k and then a couple with the d-max for around 11-14k

As much as I would like the d-max its out of budget and I Dont like the newer cabs being they are taller and look odd with a bed behind them. So it looks like the gasser for simplicity or the cat. Any input or worries on the diesel? The plan is to cut down and shorten the frame, add a 88-98 or maybe a newer dually bed. Relocate the fuel tank to the bed, super singles, divorced t-case maybe a atlas for the low gear grunt and a dana 70 or dana 80 front. Maybe later add a cummins and nv4500 from a early 90's dodge doner.

main concern right now is about the motor options between the cat and 366. Or I pick up one with no drivetrain, but that makes it a huge project from the get go and I want to avoid that. Insurance thoughts? Im going to look into that mess as well. If it could pull at least 10 mpgs I would drive the hell out of it!

pic shows one with the 366 for 2800.00 and a nasty chop of a bed on it

Not a bad idea. I saw a guy here locally that bought an old uhaul truck and did that in a two wheel drive form. Looks pretty good and he said he has 7 grand total in it.
