So there is no denying fate I guess:doah:

Recently buried this thing to the doors and I have already used it to recover the buggy and truck a handful of times.. So.. my tow rig also needs to pull recovery duties! I am tired of worrying.. although I have yet to break it.. I figure some preventative maintenance in the strength department is a no brainer with me behind the wheel.

I want to lift the 06 just a couple more inches, 2-4 more or so and stick with my current wheel and tire combo "35 inch" Around a 6 inch total lift would tickle my fancy just fine while not being as crazy as the 07.

Pretty much have my mind set of leaf springs for now and later on a more technical air bag set up front and rear once the ride drive me nuts..

For now..

52 inch springs or stock super duty springs, the issue with the later is they have a 3.5 inch width iirc.

For the brackets I have looked at sky's kit, The price is right however I do not like the idea that the bracket alone adds 6 inches. The next option is the offroaddirect kit, it is around 750 shipped and includes the shock mounts, and upper shock hoop for the money. This kit uses the super duty stock or lift springs and adds only 3 inches of hight with the mounts compared to the 6 that the sky kit adds. One bonus is the truck would not be down long at all.. one bummer is the customer service or product gets bashed by many and I realistically can make it.

Another option is to make my own front hangers "easy" draw them up and have a buddy with a plasma table cut them so they are real clean, use the factory tow hook holes to line it all up and measure off of.

If I did it myself I believe I can use the factory rear chevy 2wd hangers and shackles and flip them upside down.. iirc

For the axle.. Im honestly thinking about just putting a 44 in it, if i can find a ford 78-79 leaf spring axle then I could save some head ache from swapping to a passenger drop vss 241.. Or I could simply use a 8 lug chevy and hassle with converting to a 88-91 vss 32 spline 241.. "pain to find"

For the rear I already have a 4 inch block and u-bolt kit left over from when I swapped to Deavers on the 07.. so aside from some shocks and a spacer for my air bags.. that should do it back there aside from a break line issue should I have one. Currently I have a 1 inch block in the rear, so going up 3 inches should look just about right.

So... ideas? Input? The plan is to start gathering parts this week and dive right in.

First I am going to try hard to locate a 78-79 ford dana 60 axle, If I cant find one under 1200 with the gears I want I will just snag a d44 ford 8 lug or go the headache route with the chevy 8 lug 44. I need to find the axle asap as it will determine everything else i will need.

For steering.. well that depends on my axle choice, If I go 60 it will get the the wfo steering off the buggy since I am in the middle of changing that out anyways. If i go 1/2 ton I might use the oru knuckle, aftermarket flat top or???

Plan is to keep this simple, some what budget minded and less extensive compared to the 07 and do it all in house other then the exhaust work and driveline.

Here we go!:doah:

What transfer case do you have now? Is it the bushputton or on the floor?

transfer case

If your truck has auto 4wd mode, then it will be a np246. If it doesn't have the auto function, then it is a np243. The 243 should work fine, but the 246 uses clutches to drive the front axle and won't hold up very well with larger tires.

Thanks for the entertainment!

I won't even think of burying my burb up to the floorboards, and its a 91!

He won't have Auto considering it is a 3/4 ton, that only came in 1/2 tons. You could make your stock t-case work with ORU's front SYE kit, but I don't think it is worth it. I have heard of people (Chopperman from Pirate as an example) in particular that had to do more machining to the output after he bought it. I would try to source a np241 or whatever the push button model is from the '92-'98 body style is, and swap that it in. As far as brackets, if you have a buddy with a plasma table I would draw up the brackets myself and have him cut them out.

Scored a 44 with 4.10 gears, driver drop out of a conversion van.. I will have to cut off the the brackets off but thats what they made plama cutters for:D The brakes are dual piston and pretty fliping large.

Thank you very much for the info on the 271, I have not even heard of that case. I assume a 241 would be cheaper though, maybe easier too. I had/have considered leaving the current t-case in with the slip for now, but I am going to start looking for the correct 241 next week.

Bummer I am so busy this weekend, its tempting to get started, not sure on the time line for this build but the sooner the better:D
