towbar question

Well, I am towing my Jimmy 3 hrs tomorrow for wheeling trip. I have two optional towbars. One is a steel homemade unit. Its very heavy, fairly long, not bad except for the mounting. I dont like it and think its kinda mickey mouse. The other is steel, but lots shorter, store bought built by Reese, but it mounts a lot better than the other one and its light. Is there a preference I should consider? Im talking about the length. They both mount at the same spot on my rig, but the bought one is near 1 foot shorter. Any thoughts?

I would think that on the shorter one that if you have the clearance to make a sharp corner if needed you won't be hitting anything would work.

Go with the Reese if you have any concerns about the other one. The one I built was 48" from the hitch ball to the bumper and I could jacknife to 90 degrees no problem.

I've never actually measured mine but i have never had a problem with clearance while turning. Just remember don't try to back up with it all hitched up. I've seen a lot of towbars die that way.
