a buddy of mine wants to go up to rouche creek... but he needs someone to tow his jeep. id like to go up with him and help him out but just wanted some opinions on how the blazer would tow his jeep. i know it would not be very good on fuel... any opinions?

it'll be slow, but it will do it. fuel mileage wont be bad either. just don't leave it in overdrive, unless you want to kill your trans.
you need to boost that thing!

if you put a 700 in 3rd, it will run the lower gears too. in mine, when i had the 700, it only showed 123D, and if i put it in 3, it ran all three gears just no OD, as opposed to putting it in 2 where it only runs 2nd, etc.

there was something wrong with that trans. of all of them that i have ever owned, putting one in "2" resulted in 1st and 2nd gear.

wow.. yeah now that i re read that... thats what i thought too... that it ran the gear that you put it into and all the lower gears

well, actually, i guess the whole comment about the 2 was based on assumption. sorry. i never really used 2, used 1, 3, D tho. :)

A lot of older ford tranny's do that though. Put it in "2" and it'll start off in second and of course never shift out of second. Actually pretty handy with a 2WD in the snow...being able to lug it a bit to get going works quite well.

No stock GM auto that i've ever driven did that though.

interesting. i once had a discussion with a cousin about what it means when you're in gear "2" or any other specified gear, and i had always thought you had the gears below it, but he said that it stayed in 2 only. well, he had a ton more knowledge about vehicles at the time than i did, so i took his word for it. interestingly, he was only around old fords and toyotas... don't know about the toyotas, but maybe it was the ford thing that made him think that way.

4L60E's do it... at least in 2 different '93 S10s that I've driven.

Cool, I've never driven anything with the 4L60E so I wouldn't know.
