I will be heading back to the gulf soon and I'll have to tow my 06 yota tacoma 2wd manual trans. Can I use a dolly without disconnecting the driveshaft being that its a manual trans?

I've researched and found that some say it's fine, others say it could damage the trans. Owners manual only says not to dinghy tow.

if still like older toyotas just pull the 4 bolts at the axle and drop the shaft and be safe.

What he said. I have heard that the gears spinning is what keeps all the bearings lubed. Not all the gears are spinning, not all the bearings are getting lubed. Dont know how true it is but it sure seems like a long haul could do damage.

I work for a towing company, i would not do that to a newer vehicle. You can get away with it on most older vehicles but these newer transmissions can get damaged. If going a few miles its no big deal but i wouldnt go far with it, just pull the shaft and be safe.

It's best to pull the D/S,if your towing it at 35 mph or faster and ot more than 50 miles, otherwise the rear bushing in where the driveshaft slides into the tranny will overheat from lack of lube and cause a ton of greif...

Just to dog pile on, pull the shaft and tow it like that. It's the lubrication issues that y5 mentioned.

With the rear driveshaft removed he shouldn't have any issues at all. Nothing spinning except for the rear axle.
